IVF in Cyprus

IVF (IVF in Cyprus)

The egg of the female and the sperm of the male are combined in-vitro under laboratory conditions, to provide fertilization. This process is called “in vitro fertilization” (IVF).

This method was developed at the beginning of 1970s in order to provide children for women having uterus channel closed, and gained its popularity by the birth of the first IVF baby named Louise Brown in 1978. On account of its being the first method to come into use, it is the best-known infertility treatment among the public.

The microinjection (ICSI) procedure is the process of injecting a selected sperm cell into each of the eggs by using a special microscope. It the most oftenly used method for the recent IVF cases.

At Dogus IVF Center fertilisation is guaranteed in case the usage of ICSI procedure in every treatment. ICSI is used for all treatments regularly, no need to pay more in case when you ask for this treatment.

If you choose Dogus IVF Center do not worry for regular stuffs, everything we are providing in our hospital legally accepted from the government. Also we would like to enlighten you about the embrio transfers; 2-3 embrio transfers are legally accepted.

Stages of IVF / ICSI Treatment:

Step 1: Apply for IVF in Cyprus

The very beginning stage is to contact us either as a call (00905428656438 watsapp&viber) or an e-mail ([email protected]). You are going to be guided by the Patient Coordinator Zeina Muhareb. During the initial consultation Zeina will enlighten you on every single detail about the treatment by the guidance of the Infertility Specialist Doctor Shevket Alpturk. Please do not hesitate to contact us and ask anything you would like to know about the treatment. We are here in order to make your dreams come true.

Step 2: Fertility testing

In this step we need to be sure that we are in the right path so we ask from patients to do some tests in order to manage the medication protocol for the specific case. So, our IVF Specialist will take a full medical history to confirm the treatment by blood tests to check hormonal levels and a check up of ultrasound scan. Based on the results of medical history a personalized medication protocol will be managed for the patient.

Required tests are:

From the wife:

  • FSH, LH, E2, PRL, AMH
  • Blood Type and Rh Factor,
  • TSH, T3, T4,
  • Glucose Test,
  • CBC,
  • Urea, SGPT, SGOT
  • HbsAg, Anti-HCV, Anti-HBC total, HIV, VDRL.

From the Husband:

  • Semen analysis
  • Blood Type and Rh Factor
  • HbsAg, Anti-HCV, Anti-HBC total, HIV, VDRL.

Step 3: Medication

The personalized medication protocol would be prepared by Dr. Şevket Alptürk for the patient. The woman (recipient) will be prescribed medication to help the egg produced by control. These medication will also prescribed to increase the egg supply. Approximately the whole pre-medication treatment takes 10-12 days.

There are two options of the whole treatment; first is the long term treatment. That is to say you need to stay for 21 days in Cyprus and in this option you have the chance to do all the tests and checkups at our clinic. The medication also will be taken in Cyprus.

The second option is the short term treatment in this option you may stay for approximately 10 days in Cyprus for the main treatment. That is to say the tests would be done in your own country. Also you will start the medication there.

We are dealing with several International Pharmacies that you can have the medication sent directly to your home address.

Also if you are willing to do the tests in your own country we can guide you to a clinic next to your area that you will have all the tests and checkups done there. So, it’s optional either you would like to come for the whole stages or you come for only the main treatment (Egg collection-Fertilization-Implantation).

To keep track of the recipient’s progress, the clinic will monitor her eggs by vaginal ultrasound scans. They will also do blood tests to chart the rising levels of estrogen produced by her eggs, which will help keep track of how the eggs are maturing. The woman will receive a hormone injection to help the eggs mature 34-38 hours before the eggs are due to be collected.

In both cases Zeina will be helping you to manage your treatment according to your schedule. Also we have several options for accommodation in Cyprus regarding your budget. So, we will prepare everything before you come and when you arrive our driver will be waiting for you in the airport to bring you to you hotel. Later whenever we need you at Dogus IVF Clinic the driver will be there to bring you. The transportation service is being provided freely to our patients.

Step 4: Egg and Sperm Collection:

In this day you will be informed at what time the driver will be collecting you from the hotel to bring you to the clinic. The woman is not going to be allowed to eat or drink anything from the last midnight because the operation will be with full anesthesia.

Collecting the woman’s eggs:

Eggs are usually collected by the guidance of an ultrasound, which usually takes about 30 minutes. The doctor will insert a thin needle through the vagina into each ovary. The eggs will then be drawn into the needle. More often than not, eggs are collected by laparoscopy (a small telescope with a light attached). This procedure involves making a small incision in the stomach and extracting the eggs with a fine needle, as before.

Collecting the man’s sperm:

Around the same time that the eggs are collected, a sperm sample will be taken from the male partner and stored for a short time. The sperm will be washed and spun, and then the healthiest sperm will be selected to fertilize with the egg.

After  collection of the eggs and the sperm sample you will be informed on how many eggs have been collected and also about the sperm quality you will be enlightened. Therefore, you will rest for a couple of hours at Dogus IVF Clinic then the driver will brings you back to your hotel.

Step 5: Fertilization:

Embryo Development

Once the sperm and egg are collected, the sperm is injected into the egg through the process of ICSI. ICSI method is provided freely at our clinic. A thin, hollow needle is pierced through the cell membrane, and is loaded with a single sperm. The sperm is then injected into the cytoplasm of the oocytes to allow fertilization. Dogus IVF Clinic provides a high quality of services in concern of Laboratory advances system and professional Embryologist team. The Fertilization process takes from 3 to 5 days. Assisted hatching and Embryo Glue is provided as a free service to our patients. During the fertilization procedure you will be informed by the coordinator about the embryo development.

Step 6: Embryo Transfer:

 Embryo Transfer

The embryo transfer can occur 3-5 days after fertilization occurs, depending on factors that the couple will discuss with the embryologist. Although embryologists are also recommending that the recipient wait until day five to transfer the embryo, which is known as the blastocyst stage. The blastocyst transfer has also become quite common as it increases chances of successful implantation and decreases the likelihood of multiple pregnancies. This process is the last stage of the IVF procedure. It is usually painless and does not require any anesthesia. The embryos are transferred into the uterus through the cervix with a catheter. Typically 2-3 embryos are transferred into the uterus to increase the chances of pregnancy. If done successfully, you must lay down for two hours after the transfer, so you are taken back to your bedroom on a trolley. You will be informed on what you shall do next by the coordinator.

A pregnancy test will be given 12 days after the embryo transfer. If the IVF is successful, a normal pregnancy can be carried out.

You will be always welcome to contact us in the next steps.

Success Rates | IVF in Cyprus

Many factors are to be taken into consideration when calculating the overall success rate of IVF procedures. IVF success rates depend on the age of the woman, the number of embryos transferred and cryopreserved, the recipient’s response to drugs, and the clinic. So, pregnancy rate per cycle can range from 10-50% for women under 35. Success rates slightly decline with older age groups.

Complications | IVF in Cyprus

Possible displacement of the embryos into the cervix, resulting in a lost embryo, or in the fallopian tubes, resulting in tubal (ectopic) pregnancy; multiple pregnancies. If IVF is successful, a normal pregnancy will be carried out. If IVF with ICSI results in an unsuccessful pregnancy or no pregnancy, different methods of IVF should be considered, such as Egg Donor IVF, Sperm Donor IVF or Embryo Donor IVF.

Pain Factor

The last step, transferring the embryo may cause mild bleeding and cramping.

Recovery

After the procedure, the patient should return home to rest for the remainder of the day, and should avoid strenuous activities for the next three days.
